Hatton failed in his bid to beat Floyd Mayweather in Las Vegas, but showed courage and tenacity against the six-time world champion.
The down-to-earth Mancunian beat Mexican Jose Luis Castillo in June to set up his bout with the man seen as the world's best pound-for-pound fighter.
He proved too good for Hatton, who has held world titles at light-welterweight and welterweight, but the Hitman remains one of British sport's most popular figures.
