Murray's magical year
January 1st ranking - 11
Andy Murray begins 2008 in style, winning the first title of the year in Doha but the Briton's hopes are soon dashed at the Australian Open as he runs into Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the first round in Melbourne.
The result is later put into context when Tsonga also beats Rafael Nadal on his way to the final.
Murray: "I think I've showed by winning four tournaments in the last few years that I've got the potential to challenge for Grand Slams. I don't think it's the end of the world. I wasn't completely outplayed."
January 31st ranking - 12
