Rusedski rejects Davis Cup return

Greg Rusedski

Greg Rusedski has no plans to come out of retirement to play in the Davis Cup.

David Lloyd, brother of Britain captain John Lloyd, was reported in The Times newspaper as saying the 35-year-old could be interested in a return.

However, Rusedski's spokeswoman, Sharon Park, dismissed those reports and said her client is fully focused on his commitments away from the court.

"Greg has retired and has no plans to return to professional tennis," she told BBC Sport.

"He is focusing on his role at the Lawn Tennis Association and other commitments."

The former British number one retired from the sport in April 2007 and took up a role at the LTA to help identify and develop talented youngsters.

Lloyd's comments followed Great Britain's relegation to the Euro/Africa zone after suffering a disappointing 3-2 defeat by Austria in their World Group play-off at Wimbledon in September.

World number four and British number one Andy Murray was the standout British player during the tie and the 21-year-old Scot was disheartened with the efforts of his team-mates.

The lack of strength in depth was evident as the second ranked British player, Alex Bogdanovic, lost both his singles matches and is yet to win a single Davis Cup match.

Great Britain will begin their quest for promotion back to the top tier on 6 March when they face Ukraine.
