Ivanovic to face Jankovic in semi

French Open: Sunday 25 May to Sunday 8 June
Coverage:
BBC TV, BBCi, Radio 5 Live and the BBC Sport website.

Ana Ivanovic and fellow Serbian Jelena Jankovic

World number two Ana Ivanovic will face fellow Serbian Jelena Jankovic in the semi-finals of the French Open.

Ivanovic, last year's runner-up, returned to the semi-finals with a straightforward 6-3 6-2 win over 10th seed Patty Schnyder.

The Serbian second seed came through an edgy start in cold and windy conditions to win in one hour 15 minutes.

She will next play third seed Jankovic, who defeated Spain's Carla Suarez Navarro 6-3 6-2.

Ivanovic said: "Patty is an opponent that doesn't give you many free points, so I had to adjust to that a little bit and be more patient.

I am really happy the way I'm playing at the moment, so that's something I want to keep focused on.

"I feel like I matured as the years go by, and I'm just really enjoying myself here"

""I expect tough matches so I will keep working hard and enjoy myself."

And of a semi-final match-up with compatriot Jankovic, she said: "We played many times before, and we always have tough matches.

"I think we played only once on green clay, and never at a Grand Slam.

"It's going to be interesting match. At least we have one Serbian for sure in the final."

Jankovic suffered no repeat of the aches and pains she has suffered throughout the tournament as she saw off Spanish qualifier Navarro, and is optimistic of improving her 1-5 record against Ivanovic.

"She plays a different game from me," said Jankovic. "It's hard to read because she likes to play short points and just goes for broke most of the time, so I had troubles in the past against her.

"But I don't think we played on clay many times so it's a different game and different circumstances, so I think it will be a completely different match.

"I really have to attack - she has some weaknesses in her game and I really need to play good tactically. Hopefully I can do it and get in the final for the first time of a Grand Slam."

Earlier, fourth seed Svetlana Kuznetsova continued her smooth progress with a fourth-round victory over Victoria Azarenka.

The Russian had led 6-2 2-2 when play was suspended on Monday evening and quickly finished off the Belarussian 6-2 6-3 on the resumption.

Kuznetsova has lost only 19 games in four rounds, winning every set.

"I just feel very comfortable playing here and really focus on myself," she said.

"I feel like I matured as the years go by, and I'm just really enjoying myself here."

She goes on to face Kaia Kanepi of Estonia, who beat Czech Petra Kvitova 6-3 3-6 6-1 in the remaining fourth-round match held over.

"No-one from Estonia has ever made it to the quarter-finals for women so I am very pleased about that," said Kanepi.

"I have been believing in myself that I can beat the top players and I was hoping for a breakthrough sometime."
