New Hawk-Eye rules for Australia
The 2007 Australian Open will adopt a system of customised challenges for the Hawk-Eye video line-calling.
Players are currently allowed two challenges in a normal set, but if they are incorrect one challenge is lost.
At next year's Australian Open, if play reaches 6-6 in the final set the 'challenge counter' will be reset and both players will start afresh.
It is the first time video line-calling will be used in Melbourne, with big screens installed on Rod Laver Arena.
Tournament director Craig Tiley said: "Today's announcement of the challenge system reflects what is special about the format at the Australian Open.
"It means that when matches go beyond six games all in the final set, players still have the safeguard of being able to turn to the technology in cases where a call is disputed."
The 2007 Australian Open takes place from 15-28 January.
