Swiss oust Rosset ahead of GB tie

Marc Rosset and Roger Federer on Davis Cup duty Swiss Davis Cup captain Marc Rosset has been sacked ahead of September's World Group play-off against Great Britain.

World number one Roger Federer broke the news to Rosset, citing a breakdown in confidence between captain and team.

"The decision was made unanimously, and I explained it to Marc," said Federer, who will lead the Swiss on home ground from 23-25 September.

"It was justified by reasons within the team. We all have a lot of respect for Marc Rosset as a person and athlete."

Rosset has been involved in 58 Davis Cup ties since being appointed in 2002, and has officiated seven times as a captain.

Federer added: "He is and he will remain a great personality of Swiss tennis."

A decision on who will replace Rosset will be made at a later date, with coach Ivo Werner and physical trainer Pierre Paganini taking charge for the moment.
