Navratilova denied doubles feat

Martina Navratilova missed out on a 59th Grand Slam title when she and Indian partner Leander Paes were beaten in the French Open mixed doubles final.

The pair lost 3-6 6-3 6-2 to Frenchman Fabrice Santoro and Slovakian Daniela Hantuchova on Friday.

The 48-year-old Navratilova, who needs four more titles to equal the 62 of Margaret Court, took the first set.

But Santoro and Hantuchova levelled the match and then reeled off six games in a row in the decider.

"It's my 16th time competing at Roland Garros," said 32-year-old Santoro. "A title in Paris is great.

"I can tell you, I held up the trophy...and it's something that's very important for me and in my career."
