Moya secures fourth-round place

Carlos Moya Carlos Moya reached the last 16 of the French Open with a hard-fought win over fellow Spaniard Fernando Vicente in Paris on Friday.

With the temperature soaring, Moya, seeded 14, came through 6-4 7-6 (7-4) 6-7 (3-7) 0-6 6-4 after wasting four match points in the third set.

Reigning champion Gaston Gaudio beat Felix Mantilla 6-4 6-4 6-3 win.

And Sebastien Grosjean thrilled the home crowd with a dramatic five-set win over Radek Stepanek.

The Frenchman needed four match points before beating Stepanek 6-4 4-6 3-6 6-3 6-4.

Grosjean goes on to face Rafael Nadal, while Moya must take on top seed Roger Federer in the fourth round.

Argentine fifth seed Gaudio plays 20th seed David Ferrer, who went through in straight sets against Hyung-Taik Lee of Korea.

Moya, the 1998 champion, slumped alarmingly in the fourth set against VIcente and needed two breaks to serve out for the match in the decider.

He later revealed that a shoulder injury is hampering his serve, and admitted that would make his next match even more daunting.

"Serving like that against Federer, it's going to be complicated," he said.

"I need to hit as many winners as possible, and I need to use my backhand.

"And if I can't be 100%, I'll have to run more, work more on each point, and I'm not used to playing that way."

Tim Henman's conqueror Luis Horna was a third-round casualty, going down in straight sets to Victor Hanescu of Romania.
