Roddick beaten in five-set epic

Andy Roddick Second seed Andy Roddick let a two-set lead slip as he crashed out to Jose Acasuso in the second round of the French Open on Thursday.

The American showed all his fighting qualities after Acasuso levelled, but the Argentine's inspired hitting eventually proved too much.

Acasuso got the decisive break in game 13 and held serve for a 3-6 4-6 6-4 6-3 8-6 victory.

The world number 62 goes on to face Filippo Volandri in the last 32.

It was the second straight year Roddick has gone out in five sets in the second round and in five visits to Roland Garros he has yet to make it to the second week.

"I felt fine out there and was playing really well, but I let it slip," said the American.

"I was as well prepared as ever coming in here but clay takes away a lot of my strengths and plays into the hands of other guys' strengths.

"But I enjoy the challenge of it. Maybe I am going to have a run some time."
