Who will win the NRL play-offs?

The Sydney Roosters and Cronulla move a step closer to the National Rugby League grand final after wins in the weekend's play-offs.

Who are you tipping for NRL glory?

This debate is now closed.

Newcastle's Premiership defence came to an end on Sunday with defeat to the Sydney Roosters in the elimination play-off.

The Roosters' 38-12 home win means they will meet the Brisbane Broncos for the right to play in this year's grand final.

Cronulla are also one win away from the final after beating St George-Illawarra 40-24 at Aussie Stadium. They will meet the New Zealand Warriors in next Sunday's preliminary final.

Who are you tipping tip for NFL glory?

The Knights are now history thanks to the Roosters. It was certainly an amazing game. I'd give a week's wages to see the Warriors take the Final. I live in hope.
Marian, New Zealand

Being a one eyed kiwi, the Warriors are the only team I see winning the grand final.
Keith, New Zealand

It's great to see the Warriors finally playing closer to their potential. I would rather see the Broncos win, but with such high quality teams hitting their straps any one of them would be worthy.
Tim, UK

The Warriors will win this year. We travel just as well as any other team - only the Broncos have more away victories. We have the forward pack, the halves and the class to win, and I see no reason why we shouldn't. Minor premiers are not chokers - Warriors for Premiership 2002.
Russell Butchers, Auckland, New Zealand

" The Warriors are looking like genuine title contenders thanks to a great coach and dedicated players "
Mark Henle, New Zealand

There haven't been too many people picking the Warriors, but that is just what I am going to do. They have been my favourite team through the good and the bad and they have beaten all the top teams at some stage this year - twice in some cases.

They have a grim determination to win and I hope they show the knockers that they can do it. I am supremely proud of what they have achieved this year as they are ahead of their target. "Go the mighty Warriors."
Karen, Auckland, New Zealand

After a couple of scary results toward the end of the regular season, the Warriors are looking like genuine title contenders thanks to a great coach and dedicated players.
Mark Henle, New Zealand

Being a mad Chooks fan I would love to say Easts but how many big games are in them? Being on the same side of the draw as Newcastle and the Broncos makes it hard.

No, Johns will finish the Knights, so it is the Broncos to win. The Warriors do not travel well enough to win, Saints are not good enough and the Sharks will find it to hard to recover from their past two loses to Easts.
Wayne, Australia

As a Brit abroad and no proper football to watch I have latched on the NRL over here. On present form you have got fancy the Roosters. They have won every game since they upset the Broncos up at ANZ a month ago. The test will come, presuming they beat the 'Johns-less' Knights, against the Broncos in the prelim final a week on Saturday.

" You can't look past the Brisbane Broncos "
Kerim Salih, England

As I'm living in Wollongong I've got to back the Dragons as well. They are on the easier side of the draw and have turned it around in the last few weeks with back to back wins against the Knights. Dragons v Roosters final for me.
Craig Flindall, Wollongong, Aus

My other half is from Sydney and he hates Brisbane (he calls them the Man United of NRL!!!) but he assures me that with the likes of Langer, Tallis and Lockyer in their side they have exactly what it takes to win the Grand Final.

I love them and so I'm inclined to agree, especially as I don't think any of the other play-off teams have anywhere near the all-round squad strength of Brisbane, something that stands you in good stead at this time of the season.
Maria Slaney, Walderslade, Kent, England

You can't look past the Brisbane Broncos when it comes to the heated battles that are the NRL play-offs. They've been there so many times before and have an awesome set of players and I believe they'd be favourites even if the Bulldogs were still in the mix.

Don't underestimate their namesakes over here either, I fancy London to cause an upset or two in the Super League play-offs too as they are bang in form at just the right time.
Kerim Salih, England

" The Warriors will "choke" under pressure "
Joe, New Zealand

I think that the Newcastle Knights will take out the Grand Final. The Warriors, though, have impressed more than the rest in flowing game play and flare but don't have the experience in this level of play, like the Knights of Broncos.

The Warriors, however, may reach the top four which will be a build up for next year or years to come.
Michael Doherty, New Zealand

From bankrupt to bankroll, the Kiwi team are learning all about the highs and lows of professional sport. Me thinks the hard road will carry them far this time around. Many thanks to Daniel Anderson - deservedly named coach of the year at the NRL premier awards.
Clark Nemeth, New Zealand

I think the Warriors will "choke" under pressure.
Joe, New Zealand

I'm just hoping for a NRL/Super League Warriors double - Wigan and the Kiwis. If the NZ Warriors could win the Grand Final, it would be a genuine coming of age for a team that has underachieved in the past.

It would also be a massive boost for the game, with the Kiwis beating the Australians at their own sport. The worrying thing is if it happens, the GB team would be facing an even more confident and stoked Kiwi team in the forthcoming Test Series.
Daniel, London, UK

The Warriors have done well this season but the pressure of the finals will be the test. Brisbane have been there before and I reckon if Allan Langer hits form they will take the title.
Steve Errigadoo, England

" Brisbane or Newcastle have the best overall form "
Chris Wheatley, New Zealand

The Roosters have the momentum leading into the finals series having beaten two of the top three sides in the Warriors and the Broncos in recent weeks. As a mad Roosters fan, I would suggest (and pray) that this is the year of the Rooster.
Nicholas Goodstone, Australia (living in UK)

Don't count the Broncos out. They've had a few dodgy games towards the end of the season, but you can't back against them with the players in their side. Broncos win against Newcastle in the final for me, although I'd love to see NZ Warriors in the final.
Chris Drench, England

Brisbane or Newcastle have the best overall form and should fight out the Grand Final. The Warriors (who have had it easy all season playing top teams backing up from State of Origin and Test matches) will do well to win a game in the finals series. Now the pressure is really on they'll fade away as usual.
Chris Wheatley, New Zealand

This is the first time that the Warriors have topped the league and it gives them a great chance to lift the title. They have gained some great wins this year and advanced the game in New Zealand.
Paul, England

" I take my hat off to Daniel Anderson "
Jodie, NZ

My heart tells me the Warriors but my head tells me the form team is the Roosters and they will continue their recent form and roll all that stand before them.
Richard, New Zealand

Now that the Bulldogs (who clearly would have beaten any of the team in the playoffs) are now taken out, there are about five teams that on any given day could beat the other. So it's up for grabs as to who will be the second best team of the year.

The year is a joke with what has gone on in the past few weeks. No matter who wins, they will not be able to call themselves the best team.
Jimmy Simms, Australia

Well done to the Warriors. As much as I'd like to say they will take it out this year...I'm afraid to admit I don't think they have the experience. But who knows? They are a different side to what they were two years ago.

I take my hat off to Daniel Anderson, what a coach!!! Watch out for the Warriors next year. Good luck to them.
Jodie, NZ

The Warriors will come close but I think the experience in the Knights and Broncos will see either of the teams go through and lift the trophy.
Matt, Sydney
