Who should make way at Old Trafford?
This debate is now closed.
Fergie should unload himself from the club, his 'big mouth' and chewing gum will NOT be missed, and I'm sure the club would save on his salary.
Julie Lockwood, Wales
Get rid of Beckham, as far as I am concerned he is easily the worst of the six top midfielders United have, yet he would probably be valued among the highest (wierd?!?).
Neil, Scotland
I think the only players to leave United should be Roy Keane and Fabien Barthez. Roy Keane is easily replaced with Nicky Butt and Barthez with Rustu Recber (About £5m).
Chiesa should be brought in to fill the gap Yorke left. Blanc should be released and took as far away from Old Trafford as possible with Wes Brown stepping up into his place.
Darren,
United Kingdom
Fergie should off-load Scholes, as Veron has taken the position away from the England star. He should move for his own good to regain his confidence, and also his superb talent and self-belief.
Imran Damani, England
I think people are too quick to jump on Fergie. His signings will prove themselves worthy this season - including Veron. As for getting rid of Keane, have a word. He's the best player at United - and one of the best in the world. If I was to get rid of anyone it would be fringe players like Fortune, Chadwick etc.
Shane O'Donnell, England
Sir Alex should consider selling Beckham. Of all the midfielders at old Trafford he is the least versatile and influential, and has never played a commanding role in United's successes.
I'm sure Real Madrid would be interested, or maybe Inter. They'll have a few bob to spend when they sell Ronaldo. It would be good for Beckham too, as he could develop into a better player. At the moment he's too much of a one-trick monkey.
Vic Maloney,
London
I think Kenyon is bluffing. Other clubs think that that Man Utd are the only team with the financial power to buy big. If a club knows they are interested in on of their players, they will hold out on the high valuation knowing that United are capable of matching it (just look at Ferdinand).
By claiming United have to sell, Kenyon is signalling they have financial constraints and will not break the bank to match ridiculous valuations. With many clubs in financial crisis, United may be able to do some bargain hunting!
Simon Wong,

I would get rid of Veron. Although his price has gone down due to poor form you could still buy two or three decent players. I would buy Wayne Bridge and get rid of Phil Neville who is dreadful. In attack, stick with Forlan.
Claude Bond, UK
Fergie's new policy seems to be to pay over the odds for new players (Veron, Forlan) and sell existing players on the cheap (Yorke). He should probably think about reconsidering his decision to remain as manager and offload himself.
Liverpool and Arsenal are clearly the best two teams in the country right now, and United's period of dominance is over.
Jon E, England
Resembling a nineteenth century circus owner, Ferguson has been recounting tales of his self-proclaimed 'greatest show on earth' for years. But the good old days are over, and his new and expensive attractions are simply a ploy to divert the attention of the audience away from the failings of the rest of his troupe.
No amount of "roll up, roll up" can prevent them from seeing his show for what it really is. Bring on the clowns.
Ed, Liverpool, England
If you look at the United squad now, it's getting pretty threadbare in all areas except the midfield. The obvious candidates to go are Veron or two from Scholes, Butt, Stewart and Chadwick. Veron seems the obvious choice. Let's now forget the huge money transfers; you cannot buy team loyalty and commitment - you have to nurture it.
Gavin Pollitt,
England
Ferguson should get rid of Phil Neville, Forlan and Veron. But most of all: get a goalkeeper.
KC Slootweg,
Netherlands
Fergie should get rid of himself. He thinks every player would rather play at Man Utd then their present club, even though they did not win the League or Cup last year, and will probably not do it this year either. Fergie, do everyone a favour and retire.
Nicolįs Vega-Frey, USA
I'd start by getting rid of some of those overrated England players who showed their true limits at the World Cup - Beckham, Scholes and maybe Gary and Phil Neville. Fergie must get rid of this cosy aspect of his team to move on.
Eric Steele, Ireland
I think that a move to a new club would give Scholes the impetus he needs to re-establish his form and confidence. He was jaded and inconsistent for most of last season, and largely ineffective in the World Cup.
Denzil , Belgium
I fully endorse Jim's (UK) comments. To raise the kind of money Fergie requires to rebuild the defence and to bring in a striker, one of either Beckham, Veron or Scholes will have to go. I would hate to see any of this trio leave but I don't see how else he can raise significant transfer funds. He should also get rid of the fringe players who are never going to make an impact - Chadwick, Fortune et al.
James, Manchester, UK
Why not sell Keane? You've got a replacement for him in Butt and you could play him with either Veron or Scholes in the centre. In defence, Fergie should let both the Neville brothers go as they are overrated. Then he could take in some youngsters or maybe take Carr away from Tottenham as I don't think he's very happy there.
Brian Slessor, Scotland
Is he looking for an easy life or a challenge? If he did fancy a challenge then he would sell all the foreginers in his squad and test his managerial mettle with home-grown talent.
Vaughan, London
Beckham is grossly overrated. He can only kick using his right foot. He is incredibly slow for a winger in terms of speed and can't head to save his life. And the next time he safely tackles someone and takes the ball will be the first time in his life. Sell him and buy a small country with the money.
Colin,
Canada
Man United can do without Roy Keane, as has been proven by the Republic of Ireland at the WC. Sell him, I am sure at £33m other teams won't hesitate to get him.
Emmanuel Tabona, Botswana
Fortune, Forlan, Nicky Butt, the Neville brothers - they have to go.
Ramon van Raak, Netherlands
They should sell Butt and Scholes and let Veron lead the centre of midfield with Keane. Veron is better than Scholes at going forward whilst Keane as anchor man is miles superior to Butt. Plus the two gingers would cough up a nice fee and cut down wages.
Tas Underwood, United kingdom
It's the manager that needs off-loading, he seems more interested in breaking transfer records, praising Veron and slagging off England than sorting his team out.
John,
UK
Diego Forlan was a waste of money and Phil Neville will never get first team action. We need a striker bad!
Sheila Blackery, United Kingdom
I believe that fringe players like Phil Neville, Luke Chadwick and Quentin Fortune should be off-loaded so as to finance a move for a big money striker such as Batistuta, but I would like to see a young striker such as Vassell or Defoe at Old Trafford who can grow with the squad instead of acting as a quick stop-gap.
Stuart Lee, England
I think Fergie should get rid of the likes of Blanc and other aging players and let Wes Brown have a crack at the defensive duty. Rio Ferdinand should be a great teacher for him.
Also, Forlan does not look like he is going to make much of an impact so maybe consider loaning him out or something? And what about making his money on Veron? I'm sure there will be many Spanish clubs willing to pay the £25m or so they want for him and just let the old midfield of Giggs, Beckham, Scholes and Keane take over again?
Jamie Pell, Middlesbrough, England
I think Ferguson should be off-loaded. Every time he opens his mouth I find him laughable. Go now!
Neil Warren, England
In the interests of the player and the England football team, Nicky Butt should be allowed to leave to give him the opportunity to fully develop the creative side of his game. He is wasted as a squad player at Old Trafford.
Roger Thrush,
England
I would get rid of Phil Neville, but I can't imagine getting much for him...
Adam, UK
I think that one of the two Neville brothers should make way for a new defender or even Silvestre. I would also consider the sale of Beckham if good money was offered.
George Somos, Australia
United have an abundance of talent in their squad, but need to trim down their midfield and add to their defence again as it looks like Laurent Blanc will retire next year. That may mean moving on players like Phil Neville, May, Fortune and Chadwick.
Davie Mosley,
Glasgow
This one is fairly obvious.
United must still be weak in defence if the Neville bothers can get a game!
Brian, UK
Fergie should throw a tantrum and give an ultimatum to the board: either they cough up with more money or he goes. The board would then panic and give Ferige the millions that he needs to rebuild the back four.
United need two quality full-backs and a partner for Rio Ferdinad as well as a world-class goalkeeper if they are to mount a serious challenge in both the Premiership and Champions League this season.
At the moment you cannot see United being able to challenge Real Madrid and a strengthened Bayern Munich in the Champions League next season. This is clearly Fergie's dream and the main motivating force behind his decision to postpone his retirement.
Jim, UK
I don't think anybody should be off-loaded at Old Trafford. Ferguson knew he needed a new striker as well but decided to blow all his transfer money on a one-off defender who will probably have a torrid time at the club.
I also think he should stick up more for the players like Veron and Forlan who have been slightly criticised by the media. Both players are both really trying their hardest to be a success.
Carl Gibbons, England
I'd sell Beckham because I think he's overrated. But I know his image generates too much money for the club to let him go and he does tend to come up with a few goals now and then.
There's really no-one else they could let go that would make them big bucks (Keane, Giggs, Scholes are too important to the team). Why is it that the richest club in the world needs to sell before buying again? I'd buy Duff and play either him or Giggs upfront with Ruud or Ole when necessary.
Kev Gavin, Ireland
Easy money: Barthez (before he tries to dribble round Henry again);
The Chuckle (Neville) Brothers - the most overrated full-backs since Wolves tried to claim Muscat had ability; Silvestre.
