Olympic parade for Scottish stars

Chris Hoy shows off his medal haul from Beijing

Scotland's Olympic medal heroes, including triple gold winner Chris Hoy, are to take part in a triumphant homecoming parade on 27 August.

The Beijing stars will ride in an open top bus down the Royal Mile in Edinburgh after attending a reception at the city's castle.

Suffolk-born cyclist Ross Edgar won silver behind Hoy in the Keirin.

Aberdeen canoeist David Florence was runner-up in the slalom, while rower Katherine Grainger also won silver.

Glasgow's Grainger has now picked up a silver medal in three consecutive Olympic Games.

The welcome, organised by sportscotland and the Scottish Government, will begin with a press conference at Edinburgh Castle.

The celebratory bus ride will then begin at Castle Esplanade, travelling down the Royal Mile and finishing at Holyrood Palace.

Track cyclist Hoy, 32, was the first Briton for 100 years to win three golds at a single Olympics - and became Scotland's greatest Olympian yet in the process.

The Edinburgh athlete, dubbed 'The Flying Scotsman', added to his Keirin triumph with victories in the sprint, the team sprint in China.

He had also won a gold at the Athens Games in 2004 in the 1km sprint.
