Parker signs fresh Ospreys deal

Sonny Parker

Wales centre Sonny Parker has ended speculation about his future by signing a new three year deal with the Ospreys.

New Zealand-born Parker, 31, will now remain with the region until the end of the 2011-12 season.

Ospreys head coach Sean Holley said: "He has been a real big game player for us... and we firmly believe that there is more to come."

Parker said: "Wales is my home and I want to stay here after my rugby career finishes."

Parker has made 93 Ospreys appearances since joining from Celtic Warriors in the summer of 2004, scoring 22 tries.

The New Zealander arrived in Wales in 1999, signing for Pontypridd from Italian side Viadana, making his international debut three years later after qualifying through residency.

Parker added: "I believe that I still have a lot to offer the region.

"The coaches and players here have helped me so much since I signed in 2004, and along with the amazing fans who are the heartbeat of the organisation, have made me feel extremely welcome here.

"To sign me up for another three years, for what may be my final contract, shows the belief that the Ospreys have in me, and is an indication of how they have supported me over the last five years.

"I want to repay that faith over the next few seasons by helping to bring more success.

"The Ospreys are like a family to me, and I'm happy and proud to be a part of it."

Holley added: "He is an international calibre player who possesses a lot of leadership qualities.

"He is particularly adept at mentoring some of the younger talent that we have, passing on his considerable knowledge and experience for the good of the region. "

Parker had been linked with a possible move to Harlequins or to France prior to committing his future to the Ospreys.
