Newcastle sign up Bath prop Ovens

Laurence Ovens

Newcastle Falcons have announced the signing of Bath prop Laurence Ovens on a two-year deal.

The 23-year-old had been with the West Country side his whole career, making his debut in the Heineken Cup in 2004.

"Laurence's arrival gives us serious competition for places on both sides of the scrum," Falcons director of rugby Steve Bates told the club's website.

"He scrummages well, is a handful around the park and will add to the overall quality of our squad."

Ovens becomes the Falcons' 16th new signing of the summer.
