London Wasps prop Phil Vickery has undergone a successful operation on his injured neck.
The 33-year-old suffered the injury during last month's 18-13 victory against Racing Metro in the Amin Challenge Cup.
A club statement said he now faces a rest period before beginning rehabilitation which is expected to take more than three months.
The injury has forced him out of England's autumn internationals.
Meanwhile, fly-half Danny Cipriani is likely to begin running next week as he steps up his recovery from a hairline fracture of the leg.
