France great Betsen joins Wasps

Serge Betsen

Former France international Serge Betsen has signed a two-year deal with London Wasps.

The 34-year-old, who won 63 caps for his country, will join the Premiership finalists next season.

Flanker Betsen has been with French side Biarritz for 17 years and retired from international rugby after last year's World Cup.

Wasps have also confirmed the signing of scrum-half Mark Robinson from Northampton Saints.

"I have signed for two years with Wasps, their past speaks for itself," said Betsen.

"I have been at Biarritz for 17 years. Three years ago, I chose to extend my deal with sporting aims that have more or less been carried out, but I already had this desire to leave and discover other things."

"Wonder if they think one of the back rowers is moving on, perhaps the rumours of Haskell leaving are true?"

He will link up with Raphael Ibanez, his former Les Bleus colleague, at Adams Park.

During his international career Betsen earned a reputation as fearless tackler and won the Six Nations three times, including two Grand Slams in 2002 and 2004.

Robinson joins Wasps after five seasons with Northampton.

The Kiwi-born half-back won three All Black caps between 1997 and 2001 while playing Super 12 rugby for the Chiefs and Auckland Blues.

"I'm delighted to be coming to Wasps next season," said Robinson.

"They are one of the top clubs in the Premiership, and I'm really looking forward to getting involved."
