Booth demands better from Exiles

Toby Booth

London Irish coach Toby Booth said his team was not satisfied despite beating Connacht 27-10 on Friday night.

The Exiles are top of their European Challenge Cup pool with a maximum 10 points from two matches.

But Booth told BBC Radio Berkshire: "You have a set of standards that you want to achieve and we were below that.

"But we can't control everything - I thought Connacht was excellent and I don't think the scoreline was very flattering for them."

He added: "You want to coach the perfect game and a perfect performance, but you're never going to do that.

"I don't think we played badly - we didn't play smartly, which is a lot different.

"Our aim is to win this competition and there are many steps on the way to doing that. That's two steps done and there are four more in the pool stages to go."

Irish's attentions now return to the EDF Cup as they face Harlequins on Saturday at the Stoop.

Booth faces a selection dilemma, with Irish's progression in the competition looking unlikely having lost their opening match to Worcester.

He said: "We wanted to get these European Cup games done and then have a look at who we have, who needs game-time and who needs to play.

"We'll have a look at the position in the week and decide but the result of the group is in the oppositions' hands now."
