Olly Barkley has admitted his arrest following a fight in July affected Bath's preparations for the new season.
Barkley, who was not charged over the incident, said: "It didn't really affect me on a psychological level, but I knew it was nothing to do with me.
"I was told by the police that I had acted admirably in the situation, but it was disruptive for the side.
"I wasn't at training for three days and there was a bit of confusion as to why I wasn't at training."
The incident came at the end of a difficult summer for Barkley, who toured Australia with England in the summer but was dropped after playing in the first Test.
Barkley, who has won 16 England caps, also saw Bath boss Brian Ashton depart for the national set-up.
Ashton left just weeks after Barkley signed a new two-year deal at the Recreation Ground.
"Brian Ashton wasn't the only reason for me staying here, but he was a major factor," said the 24-year-old.
"Him leaving was upsetting for me, but I can understand why he went. England asked for him and he answered the call.
"You can't ever hold that against him, but I think you are dealt a hand and you have got to do the best you can with it."
