And they surged clear when Romain Millo-Chluski and replacement Florian Fritz touched down in quick succession.
The Gunners answered in fine style when scrum-half Mike Blair freed up Chris Paterson for a brilliant score, but the bold visitors came no closer to parity.
Torrential rain made conditions even tougher as the match wore on and it was a handling error which allowed Toulouse to open up a 15-point gap after 55 minutes.
Neither Hugo Southwell nor Paterson was able to hold an up and under before Jean-Frederic Dubois sprinted over unchallenged.
