Worcester v Newcastle

Worcester finally came to life in the second half as they beat Newcastle in an error-ridden encounter.

Penalties from Matthew Jones, Chris Pennell and Loki Crichton helped Worcester into a 9-3 half-time lead.

Two minutes after the restart Chris Latham scored out wide and Crichton's conversion and penalty made it 19-6.

Sam Tuitupou collected Crichton's chip to score a converted try, with Danny Williams scoring from the last move of the match for the struggling visitors.

Worcester's victory came at a price, with injuries to star full-back Chris Latham, stand-off Jones and hooker Chris Fortey.

Worcester boss Mike Ruddock:

"Chris Latham was fantastic. He thoroughly deserved his man of the match award.

"We probably should have done a bit better. It was a good win, but we didn't hit the heights.

"Our defence was excellent but our continuity should have been better. They never looked like winning the game but they never lay down."

Newcastle boss Steve Bates:
"We played much better than we did last week against London Irish, which was our worse performance of the season.

"The turning point of the game came early in the second half. We were pretty competent in the first half but weren't precise enough after half-time.

"We battled hard but we made fundamental errors."
