Bath celebrate Joe Maddock's try at The Rec

Bath held off a second-half Worcester fightback as they finished strongly to record an impressive bonus-point win.

The home side struck twice in quick succession through full-back Nick Abendanon and wing Joe Maddock for a deserved 17-3 lead at half-time.

Three Lori Chrichton penalties and a long-range Chris Pennell try got Worcester back into contention.

But Bath moved clear with tries from Duncan Bell, Michael Lipman and Shane Berne to climb to second in the table.

Bath coach Steve Meehan:

"We must not be scared of going out and playing. We can't go into our shells, even if the ELVs can put you under a lot of pressure.

"I was delighted to see some action in our own 22 today - it was a bit like how we played last season.

"The rewards of such an approach will outweigh the risks."

Worcester director of rugby Mike Ruddock:

"The final score hurts us, as does the fact Bath scored a number of tries.

"We were very competitive for long periods against Bath also, but we had the odd five minutes or so when we dropped our standards.

"Bath have got a lot of pace. They are difficult to stop."
