Highley live out Twickenham dream

Highley Rugby Club

Shropshire's newest rugby club, Highley, have been given a dream opportunity to play at Twickenham.

They will provide the curtain-raiser for the Premiership final on 31 May, after being named as the country's most progressive junior club.

"The whole club and the whole village is in a huge state of excitement," Dave Morris told BBC Radio Shropshire.

"To play on such a massive stage as Twickenham is something we could never have imagined."

The club will provide two teams to play each other ahead of the Premiership finale when London Wasps will face Leicester Tigers.

The Highley club, at the heart of a former mining village in Shropshire, has made great progress since its formation just 18 months ago.

"It started as an idea in a pub, and all we had to play on was an old football pitch," said Morris.

"Now we've got two teams playing on a proper rugby pitch, and we've got the backing of the whole community."
