Unbelievably, or perhaps inevitably, the man who won the World Cup for England in 2003 is injured once again and will definitely miss the world champions' opening match.

Wilkinson has had a horrendous time with injuries since 2003, but he remains arguably the player most likely to spark England's struggling backline.

A fearless tackler in defence, Wilkinson is a fine passer and one of the most consistent goalkickers in world rugby.
