Hull recruit scrum-half Webster

James Webster

Former Hull KR scrum-half James Webster has signed for local rivals Hull until the end of the season, subject to the Australian securing a British passport.

The 28-year-old was released two-months ago by Rovers and has only recently recovered from a shoulder injury.

"When it comes to challenges in rugby league they don't get much bigger than coming to Hull FC," said Webster.

"Hopefully I can do enough between now and the end of the season to convince Hull to offer me a new contract."

He added: "For me this is not a short-term deal and I'd like to think I can finish my career here in Hull."

Webster played a pivotal role in Hull KR's promotion to Super League and appeared in their opening 13 games of the season until suffering a shoulder injury in the home defeat by Leeds in April.

He could make his debut against his old club in the Hull derby on 20 June but is not eligible to play in Hull's Challenge Cup semi-final against Wakefield a week later.

Chief executive James Rule said: "Obviously the deal is dependant on James securing his British passport which will take him off the quota because we currently have all our quota places filled.

"But we and James are confident that will go through shortly and we believe James will then become a valuable member of our squad."

Hull currently lie second-bottom of Super League, two points above Castleford.
