Huddersfield's Jensen quits game

Huddersfield Giants winger Rod Jensen has announced his immediate retirement from the professional game.

The 29-year-old made his decision after the Giants won the inaugural Carnegie Floodlit Nines tournament, beating Hull FC in the final.

"It's a fitting way to end it all, I've loved my time at the Giants," Jensen told BBC Radio Leeds.

"I'm not totally finished with the game but I'm not going to do it professionally anymore."

Jensen added: "I'll go back home to Australia and I just want to enjoy the festival of the game.

"I want to enjoy what the game has off the field for me.

Jensen joined the West Yorkshire club halfway through the 2007 season from the North Queensland Cowboys.

The popular back, who is flying back to Australia on Friday, began his career with the now-defunct Adelaide Rams, before continuing in the NRL with Canberra and then Cronulla.

"I really want to say thank you very much to all the Giants fans, it's been fantastic, I've really enjoy it down at the Galpharm.

"My year-and-a-half down here has been unbelievable, a really good ride, it's just what I wanted at the end of my career."
