Jones to extend stay at Catalans

Stacey Jones Catalans Dragons scrum-half Stacey Jones has signed a new 12-month deal with the French club.

The 30-year-old former New Zealand international was out of contract at the end of this season.

His decision to stay in Perpignan for a third year is a major boost for the French club as they seek to establish their place in Super League.

"I am very happy to be Catalan in 2008 because it will be a crucial season for the future of the club," he said.

Jones has led the Dragons in their first two seasons in Super League after spending more than a decade with the New Zealand Warriors.

"My family is very happy in Perpignan, the supporters are great and remind me of those of Auckland," said Jones.

"Furthermore, I love working with coach Mick Potter and really there was no reason for me not remain one more year in France.

"We have quite a lot of injured players this season but I am confident that, when we have our players back, we will make the play-offs."
