Fiji cancellation angers Knights

York City Knights

York City Knights have said they are disappointed their friendly game against Fiji, scheduled for Sunday, 14 December, has been cancelled.

The Knights believe Fiji were offered a "substantial appearance fee" to play at Barrow instead.

Knights general manager Ian Wilson told BBC Radio York: "It feels like we've been used, they've just got a better offer from somebody else.

"It had all been agreed, we had a lot of things in place."

Knights had arranged to play the game at Heworth as their own ground was unavailable.

Wilson added: "I personally had spent a day or two ringing round, our commercial manager has spent time ringing up to try and get sponsors and had actually been successful with a couple as well.

"Not only have people spent time and money on it but also people at Heworth."
