Peacock reveals World Cup regret

Jamie Peacock

England captain Jamie Peacock believes that he may never get over the disappointment of their World Cup exit.

The Leeds Rhinos star believes that, at 30 years old, the semi-final defeat by eventual winners New Zealand was his last chance of World Cup glory.

"It's an opportunity lost for myself and one I'm not going to get the chance to play in again," Peacock told BBC Radio Leeds.

"It still hurts me and will probably hurt me for the rest of my life."

Peacock also said that the 32-22 defeat by the Kiwis could not take the gloss off a successful season for him with Leeds, when they defended their Super League title and won the World Club Challenge trophy.

"Club football and international football are two different things for me.

"Club football couldn't have gone any better, but internationally it wasn't a great end to the season for myself, so it's one I'll always have regrets on.

"England aren't as far off as the scorelines suggested," the Rhinos prop added.

"The Kiwis beat the Australians, and we were within a fraction of beating them in the semi-final when we played poorly, so it's not all doom and gloom."
