Wigan ended a run of three successive defeats with a comprehensive hammering of Hull at the JJB Stadium.

Hull were torn apart as Wigan ran in five first half tries through Pat Richards, Micky Higham, Cameron Phelps, Iafeta Paleaaesina and Joel Tomkins.

Challange Cup finalists Hull seemed to have Wembley on their minds and Wigan took full advantage.

Tomkins ended up with a hat-trick and Richards rattled up another 26 points from nine goals and two tries.

It was the perfect response from Wigan, who consolidate fifth spot in the Super League, after their 34-4 loss to Huddersfield last week.

Wigan coach Brian Noble:
"I thought we were very vigorous tonight and forced a few errors. We took care of the ball and Hull didn't touch it in the second half.

"It was similar to our story last week. But there's no dramas or crisis at the club. We just didn't play well last week and you don't become a bad team overnight."

Hull coach Richard Agar:
"I always knew it would be tough tonight but there was a complete lack of intensity from us from the start.

"It was a shocking effort and we had no desire or enthusiasm.

"There's no excuse for what we have seen tonight."

Wigan: Mathers, Calderwood, Phelps, Carmont, Richards, Barrett, Leuluai, Fielden, Higham, Coley, Bailey, Hansen, J. Tomkins.
Replacements: Paleaaesina, Colbon, O'Carroll, Smith.

Hull: Hall, Sing, G. Horne, Yeaman, Raynor, Washbrook, Lee, Dowes, Berrigan, Carvell, Radford, Tickle, Manu. Replacements: Cusack, Briscoe, Houghton, Thackray.
