England to take on Aboriginals

England must overcome Tonga and the NASCA Aboriginal side if they are to progress to the knockout stages of the World Sevens.

The Aboriginals beat New Zealand Maoris 26-12 in Wednesday's qualifying final to book their place in this weekend's Sydney event.

Should England win their group, they are drawn to face France, Samoa or Papua New Guinea in the quarter-finals.

  • England will be coached by Wigan assistant Mike Gregory during the two-day tournament, with Phil Clarke acting as manager.

And the team includes five Great Britain internationals - skipper Andy Farrell, Lee Gilmour, Keith Senior, Danny Orr and Richard Horne.

Defending champions Parramatta face the Penrith Panthers in their opening game.

And Eels coach Brian Smith is confident his side can emulate last year's achievement.

"We'll be picking a squad that gives us the best shot of retaining the title and we can't wait for the action to begin," he said.
