
Olympic sailing champion Paul Goodison has won his first World Championship title after clinching gold at the Laser Worlds in Canada.
Compatriot Nick Thompson made it a double celebration for Team GBR by winning bronze, his first ever senior World Championship medal.
"It's fantastic and such a relief," said Goodison, who finished 6.5 points ahead of New Zealander Michael Bullot.
"There was a bit of pressure to do the business," the 31-year-old added."
Goodison, from Rotherham, is now unbeaten in international sailing since taking gold in Beijing a year ago.
606: DEBATEHe claimed the European title earlier this month and took gold at three events at the ISAF Sailing World Cup.
Thompson finished a further four points adrift of Bullard in claiming third place.
