Sheffield St 5-6 Belfast Giants

Steve Thornton

The Belfast Giants qualified for the quarter-finals of the British Knockout Cup with a narrow win in Sheffield.

After a 3-3 draw in Saturday's first leg, Tyler Howells edged the Giants into the lead before Rod Sarich and Randy Dagenais scored for the Steelers.

Belfast hit back with scores in the second period from Bobby Robins, Paul Deniset and Malcolm MacMillan.

Evan Cheverie and Deniset stretched the Giants lead but three Sheffield scores ensured an exciting finale.
