Kings opt for Murray as new boss

The Los Angeles Kings have named Terry Murray as their new head coach.

Murray spent the last four seasons as an assistant at Philadelphia and has 11 years of head coaching experience with the Flyers, Washington and Florida.

The 57-year-old, who has agreed a three-year contract, said: "This will be my biggest challenge as a coach."

The Kings had the second-worst record in the NHL last season and tied for a league-low 71 points. Murray admitted: "There is a lot of work ahead."

He replaces Marc Crawford, who parted company with the Kings after two seasons in charge.

Murray led the Flyers to the Stanley Cup finals in 1997 and has a career record of 360-288-89.
