Nolan departs from NY Islanders

The New York Islanders have parted company with coach Ted Nolan who had one year left on his contract.

Nolan took the team to the play-offs in his first of two seasons in charge but they had a poor 2007-08 NHL campaign.

General manager Garth Snow said: "Ted has helped us achieve some success, but it has become clear that we do not share the same philosophies."

Nolan, 50, admitted: "There have been differences and we've agreed that it's a good time for me to move on."

Nolan, who had asked for some new faces for the team, had previously coached Buffalo for two years from 1995 to 1997.

Snow said the team had begun their search for a replacement.

"I have a list of several qualified candidates. After a thorough process, we will hire the very best coach to lead the Islanders," he said.
