Lush Lashes claims Oaks victory

Kevin Manning

Lush Lashes raced to victory in the rearranged Darley Yorkshire Oaks at Newmarket, making up for an unlucky second at Goodwood last time out.

The race was one of several switched from York after the four-day Ebor Festival was washed out.

The Jim Bolger-trained favourite made her challenge a furlong and a half out and oozed class as she claimed a length-and-a-quarter victory.

John Gosden's pair of Dar Re Mi and Michita finished second and third.

Borderlescott secured his first Group One success in the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes, also run at Newmarket after the Ebor wash-out.

The 12-1 chance was settled in midfield by Pat Cosgrave as South African raider National Colour set a scorching early gallop.

However, Robin Bastiman's charge came out of the pack in the final furlong and got on top close home with Kingsgate Native back in third.

All The Good bounced back to form with an impressive display in the re-named Ebor, the Newburgh Handicap.

The five-year-old proved a disappointment at Ascot's Shergar Cup meeting earlier in the month and was sent off a largely unconsidered 25-1 chance.

However, brought wide to challenge in the straight, the Godolphin horse swept to the front inside the final two furlongs and galloped away under Dane O'Neill to win by over three lengths from Tropical Strait.

Top-weight Yellowstone stayed on to take third, with Pevensey fourth.

The Group Two Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Gimcrack Stakes, also staged at Newbury, was won by 16-1 chance Shaweel.

Greg Farley's mount took over from favourite Marine Boy inside the final two furlongs and the result was in little doubt as Mark Johnston's colt won by two-and-a-quarter lengths from Master Noverre.
