Thursday's racing bulletin

Racing

Thursday's Five Live selection is The Hollow Bottom in the 1510 at Ludlow (all times GMT).

Discreet Cat is likely to head straight to the Dubai World Cup after a temperature forced his withdrawal at Nad Al Sheba on Thursday afternoon.

Frankie Dettori was due to ride Godolphin's four-year-old in the Group Three Lahan Burj Nahaar Stakes at the Dubai Racing Carnival.

"It is an inconvenience but one of those things. He has a slightly elevated temperature and it isn't worth the risk," explained Godolphin spokesman Simon Crisford.

"It is not ideal in terms of his World Cup preparation to miss the race. We will give him a racecourse gallop."

Elsewhere, the going at Ludlow is soft, good to soft in places after 3.5mm of rain fell in the past 24 hours.

The race of the day is the handicap chase at 1540 which sees the return to action of The Dark Lord after nearly a year off.

Lucy Wadham's useful staying hurdler still looks to be well weighted over the larger obstacles. Jonjo O'Neill's Parkinson looks the obvious danger.

The Hollow Bottom is a strong fancy for the handicap hurdle at 1510.

The horse is named after a pub in Guiting Power, a few miles away from Cheltenham, and is reported to be in fine form by whoever it was who answered the phone just before closing time on Wednesday!

At Taunton the going is soft, heavy in places after 5mm of rain overnight. Never So Blue looks to be the banker bet at 1720.

It's standard going on the all-weather track at Lingfield. Arctic Desert is a tentative selection to end a long losing sequence in the 1600.
