Grand National lowdown

Leighton Aspell on Ballycassidy Out of a total of 40 horses that started the 2006 John Smith's Grand National, only nine of them finished - the fewest since 2001.

Jockey Niall 'Slippers' Madden and trainer Martin Brassil were celebrating when Numbersixvalverde came home at 11-1, ahead of last year's winner Hedgehunter, ridden by Ruby Walsh.

Nina Carberry, in her first Grand National, guided Forest Gunner to ninth place.
