Wednesday's Cheltenham tips

By Cornelius Lysaght
BBC racing correspondent

Coming into the Royal & Sun Alliance Novices' Hurdle (1400), Denman has been very popular.

Trained by Paul Nicholls and ridden by Ruby Walsh, he is bidding to extend his unbeaten run to six races.

Paul Carberry on Mr Nosie

He has done nothing wrong all season but could be a prohibitively short price, although he does look like a banker.

I like Noel Meade's Mr Nosie, who has also won his last four races and looks in rock solid form coming into this race.

If Denman wins the opener, then Walsh's second ride of the day in the Royal & Sun Alliance Chase (1435) will attract even more money.

Our Ben looked good last time out at Leopardstown, where he finished third, and is expected to continue his promising form.

But if you are looking for some value, Back In Front has got form at Cheltenham while Commercial Flyer has been talked up by the Martin Pipe stable.

The Listener took a heavy fall last time out which might affect his chances, but I don't see what is wrong with Darkness. Even though Tony McCoy is not riding him, he is well worth a consideration.

The Queen Mother Champion Chase (1515) looks like a two-horse race between newcomer Kauto Star and veteran Moscow Flyer.

Kauto Star looked hugely impressive in his last race at Sandown, even though that was three months ago, while Moscow Flyer's preparations have been less than impressive.

WEDNESDAY'S TIPS

The age factor also has to be relevant. Kauto Star is a youthful six while Moscow Flyer is 12.

I don't think Central House or Fota Island are good enough to win but an interesting runner is the French-trained Kario de Sormain, who has been in great form and could cause a surprise.

The Coral Cup (1600) looks a very competitive encounter with 30 runners due to go to post.

I like the look of No Where To Hyde, trained by Christy Roche and ridden by Tony McCoy, who should cope well with the conditions.

Twelve months ago, the combination of Liberthine and jockey Sam Whaley-Cohen triumphed in the Racing Post Plate.

The pairing will be hoping for success this time around in the Kim Muir Handicap Chase (1640).

In the Champion Bumper (1720), the day's final race, trainer Willie Mullins is hoping for a win with his four-strong contingent - Equus Maximus, Ballytrim, Freds Benefit and Shady Willow.

But Jonjo O'Neill has a useful challenger in Wichita Lineman, who will be ridden by JP Magnier. He could be the one to land the spoils.
