Seb Sanders rode Bangalore to victory by a head from Mr Dinos in the stayers' showcase handicap at Newcastle.
Mr Dinos made most of the running but was finaly overhauled by the fast-finishing Bangalore with Zibeline half-a-length back in third.
Sanders said: "He is such a tough horse and I was confident from turning in to the straight really, and we were well on top in the last 50 yards.
"I have ridden him in all his three starts this season and he has progressed every time - this race has been planned for some time and it is a great piece of training.
"Things are going fantastic, I had four winners yesterday and Sir Mark's (Prescott) horses are only just getting going - I am ahead of last year's schedule and the quality of the horses I am riding are getting better."
Bangalore's trainer Amanda Perrett had been in two minds whether to run the six-year-old, but she explained: "My travelling head lad walked the course yesterday and gave me a good report of the ground.
"It was a bit faster today, but it was all right where it mattered up the straight and I hope his pins (legs) are all right in the morning."
Brave
Mr Dinos' trainer Paul Cole was bidding for his fourth success in six years in the two-mile test but insisted he was still proud of his charge.
"The strong headwind did not help a front runner, it was a killer but he has run a great race," he said.
Mr Dinos' jockey Francis Norton said: "He ran a blinder, we got by the winner with half a furlong to run, but he got back on the line - they were two very brave horses."
