Bramham to stage an extra event

William Fox-Pitt

Bramham International Horse Trials will add a new event to its timetable this year following the cancellation of Chatsworth International Horse Trials.

Rain led to Chatsworth being called off, leaving 130 competitors without a chance to qualify for events later in the season.

Organisers at Bramham have worked with British Eventing to stage an extra one-day event alongside its existing three-day events.

The trials take place on 11-14 June.

The addition of the new class will bring a host of new world-class riders to Bramham, alongside the likes of Zara Phillips who has already entered this year's competition.

" It's now down to us to put on a fantastic competition with just a few weeks to go"
Event director Nicholas Pritchard

Bramham event director Nicholas Pritchard said: "As soon as I heard the news of Chatsworth's fate it occurred to me that we could help the sport and these unfortunate competitors.

"We have almost all of the infrastructure in place to run an additional competition and while it will take some re-organisation of the timetable and other changes we are delighted to be able to assist in such a positive way.

"British Eventing and the International Equestrian Federation have acted very quickly to get everything approved and it's now down to us to put on a fantastic competition with just a few weeks to go."

British Eventing sport manager Debbie Marfell added: "Our thanks go to the team at Bramham International Horse Trials who have pulled out all the stops to make this happen in just a few short weeks from now."
