GB Para-cyclists keep up gold run

Great Britain's medal rush continued on day two of the Para-Cycling Track World Championships in Manchester with five golds and a silver.

There were wins in the 1km time trial for Mark Bristow (LC1), Jody Cundy (LC2) and tandem pairing Aileen McGlynn and Ellen Hunter (B&VI).

Sarah Storey clinched gold in the LC1 3km pursuit final after setting a world record in the morning qualification.

Darren Kenny beat compatriot Rik Waddon to gold in the CP3 3km pursuit.

Paralympic champions Bristow and Cundy were in superb form in the afternoon session with Cundy setting a new world record of one minute 5.414 seconds, beating his previous best by 0.052 seconds.

"That's the hardest race I've ever had to ride," he told BBC Sport. "I got into the centre after the race and I was absolutely shot - I was really tired.

"But I gave it everything and the time goes to show that."

McGlynn, who is visually impaired, and her sighted pilot Hunter, who also won gold in Beijing, bettered their own world record with a time of 1:09.054.

It shaved 0.012 seconds off their Paralympic-winning time as they defended their world title for the third straight time.

Storey, who was born with a deformed left hand, emulated fellow former Paralympic swimming champion Cundy with a third straight world title win.

The 32-year-old from Manchester, who also rides in Sunday's 500m time-trial was two seconds quicker than her previous world record in qualification and caught American Greta Neimanas after five laps of the 12-lap final.

Kenny claimed a second win in the space of 24 hours over Waddon after Friday's victory in the 1km time trial.

It was the Bournemouth rider's 12th world title and his third of the year after success in the road race at September's Para-Cycling World Road Championships in Italy.
