Simmonds claims fourth Euro title

Eleanor Simmonds clinched her fourth title as Great Britain continued to dominate the European Paralympic Swimming Championships in Reykjavik.

Heather Frederiksen, Matthew Walker, Louise Watkin and Daniel Pepper also won gold, while six silvers and three bronzes were secured on day five.

Double Paralympic champion Simmonds pipped team-mate Natalie Jones in the S6 100m freestyle.

Walker touched out team-mate Jonathan Fox in the men's S7 100m freestyle.

"It is so great to have won that. I have moved on from Beijing because I have come here and won four gold medals instead of the two," said Simmonds, 14.

Frederiksen won the women's S9 100m butterfly title for her third gold of the meeting while team-mate Emma Hollis won bronze in her first major international event.

Watkin took her third gold medal of the competition in the women's S9 50m freestyle, with Claire Cashmore taking bronze.

Pepper won the SM14 200m individual medley, with Ben Procter taking silver and Natalie Massey was second in the corresponding women's event.

Richard Howard was second in the men's S8 100m butterfly, the men's 20-point 4x50m freestyle relay team of James Anderson, Matthew Whorwood, Sascha Kindred and Anthony Stephens also took silver and Graham Edmunds took bronze in the men's S10 50m freestyle.
