Shuker competes in Masters event

British Paralympian Lucy Shuker

Britain's Lucy Shuker will make her debut in the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Singles Masters on Wednesday.

The 28-year-old Taunton player will compete in the event in Amsterdam for the world's top eight wheelchair players this week.

She told the Disability Tennis Foundation website: "It's a unique event and it will be a great chance to test myself with back-to-back matches.

"The changes I've made in training since Beijing have brought rewards."

She continued: "It's a tournament with so many variables and I'm looking forward to seeing how far I can go.

"I've got nothing to lose this week."

Former British men's number one Jayant Mistry, Athens and Beijing Paralympics champion Peter Norfolk and former British women's number Janet McMorran have all played in the event.

Shuker has been ranked eighth in the tournament field. She is currently 13th in the world after claiming two international titles last month from the Esporta Cardiff Wheelchair Tennis Tournament and Nottingham Indoor Wheelchair Tennis Tournament.

She will be drawn in a round robin pool of four players with the top two from each group going in to the semi-finals on Saturday.

Shuker will also pair up with Florence Gravellier to compete in the Doubles Masters tournament in Italy later in November.
