British wheelchair racer Shelly Woods had to settle for fourth place in her final event of the Beijing Paralympics, the women's T54 marathon.
Woods, the youngest finalist at 22, placed fourth in a sprint finish down the final straight, four seconds behind Swiss winner Edith Hunkeler.
"I did everything well, they just had more speed in the finish," said Woods.
Fellow GB racer Dave Weir, who won his second gold on Tuesday, opted not to compete in the men's marathon.
"I think the team have done a fantastic job, but hopefully in 2012 we can do better"
The 29-year-old had already earned gold in the T54 800m and 1500m events.
Australia's Kurt Fearnley, who won 800m silver behind Weir, won the men's T54 marathon in a time of one hour, 23 minutes and 17 seconds, while Hunkeler set a time of 1:39:59 for the women.
Woods praised Weir's performances, which delivered Britain's only athletics golds of the Paralympics, despite his absence from the marathon.
"From what Dave's been through this week, to win two golds is brilliant," she said.
"I think the team have done a fantastic job, but hopefully in 2012 we can do better."
Woods has had a mixed Games, having had to hand back a 5000m silver she won in her first final, when organisers decided it needed to be re-run.
She claimed bronze at the second attempt, before winning silver in the 1500m behind Canada's Chantal Petitclerc, who successfully defended five titles in Beijing.
The honour of being Britain's last competitor at the 2008 Paralympics fell to fencer Lee Fawcett.
Fawcett, 32, made it through to the last 16 in the individual sabre category B competition, but lost 15-4 to Serhiy Shenkevych of Ukraine.
And Britain's five-a-side footballers won their final match on Wednesday, beating Korea on penalties to finish fifth overall in their first Paralympic appearance.
