GB basketball team finish eighth

Britain's women's basketball team lost 57-38 to China to match their efforts in Athens four years ago and finish eighth in their Paralympic campaign.

In archery, the women's defending recurve champions lost in the quarter-finals, while the men lost to Thailand.

GB pushed hosts China all the way in the men's class 3 table tennis, but lost 3-1 to be edged out of the medals.

Their female counterparts also fell just short of a bronze medal, losing 3-0 to France in their play-off.

Britain started well in the women's basketball, but were outscored 20-2 to trail by 12 points at half-time.

China then took control of the game, with Fu Yongging racking up 28 points.

Head coach Garry Peel said: "It's been a cracking tournament for us and we performed really well.

Peel added: "We gave it everything we had. I think we came out really on fire. Then all of a sudden we couldn't handle their pressing and we collapsed."

The GB men's team play for the bronze medal against the US on Tuesday.

GB's class 3 table tennis team of Neil Robinson, Arnie Chan and James Rawson missed out on bronze after losing their play-off 3-1 to China.

Robinson lost his opening singles match but Rawson levelled the match at 1-1. The pair lost their doubles match and then Rawson lost out in the opening reverse singles to seal their fate.

The women's duo of Cathy Mitton and Dzaier Neil were outclassed by their French opponents, who clinched the final spot on the podium.

The five-a-side football team will play-off against Korea for fifth and sixth place on Wednesday after they lost 3-1 to Athens silver medallists Argentina.

GB were without top scorer Dave Clarke who was suspended after getting a second yellow card in Saturday's 5-0 defeat to Brazil.
