Swimmers bid for Manchester joy

An experienced team of Paralympic and world champions will represent Great Britain at next month's Paralympic World Cup swimming event in Manchester.

The programme takes place on Saturday 10 May at the city's Aquatic Centre.

Athens gold medallists Natalie Jones, Nyree Lewis, Jim Anderson, Sascha Kindred, Gareth Duke and David Roberts are among those named in the team.

There are also places for Beijing hopefuls Sam Hynd, Emma Cattle, Jonathan Fox and Louise Watkin.

Hynd and Fox, both 16 years old, recently broke world records at the British Championships in Sheffield.

Hynd will compete in the S8 400m freestyle with Fox set to go up against Roberts and Matt Walker in the S7 50m freestyle.

Jones and Lewis will take on fellow Briton Liz Johnson in the SM6 200m individual medley while in the men's equivalent Kindred and Duke will compete against team-mate Matt Whorwood.

As well as swimming, the five-day competition schedule also features wheelchair basketball, athletics and cycling.

Women: Claire Cashmore (S9 100m freestyle), Emma Cattle (S10 100m backstroke), Rhiannon Henry (S13 100m butterfly), Liz Johnson (SM6 200m IM), Natalie Jones (SM6 200m IM), Rachael Latham (S8 100m backstroke), Nyree Lewis (SM6 200m IM), Louise Watkin (S9 100m freestyle), Fran Williamson (S3 50m backstroke)
