GB swimmers claim world success

Great Britain put in a superb display to finish top of the medal table at the INAS-FID World Swimming Championships in the Czech Republic.

The 19-strong team came home with 25 medals, including 10 golds, from the week-long event.

Cheshire swimmer Daniel Pepper was one of the stars, coming home with nine medals, including five golds.

Team captain Chris Pugh, from Leigh, also led by example with seven medals - three golds, two silver and two bronze.

Pepper landed individual golds in the 200m and 400m individual medley and the 100m and 200m breaststroke as well as helping the 4x100m medley relay team to success.

Pugh led home team-mates Craig Moate and David Vaughan in the 200m butterfly and also won the 100m butterfly.

He was also part of the 4x100m medley relay team with Pepper, Bryan Wibberley and Ben Procter.

Louisa Eames and Rebecca Lee claimed three relay golds apiece - in the 4x50m and 4x100m medleys and the 4x100m freestyle.

There were also two relay golds for Ainsley Blease and Stephanie Bird and one for Zoe Clayton and Chloe Williams.

"This was a tremendous performance from the whole team," said team manager Carol Halpin.
