Hankey takes on Robson in opener

Can Hankey follow in Raymond van Barneveld's footsteps and retain the crown?

Ted Hankey will begin his defence of the Lakeside World Professional Darts title against Gary Robson.

Hankey is in action on 2 January, the opening day of the Championships in Frimley Green, along with top seed Tony O'Shea, who takes on Robbie Green.

Ian Whiting, seeded 16, is first on the oche when he faces Stephen Bunting.

Reigning women's champion Francis Hoenselaar of the Netherlands faces seven-time champion Trina Gulliver on Sunday, 3 January.

The draw for the BBC-televised event, which took place on 22 October, sees 2007 champion and third seed Martin Adams play Australian Lakeside debutant Anthony Fleet on Monday, 4 January.

Second seed Scott Waites opens his campaign against Scotland's Paul Hanvidge on Sunday.

The 2010 Lakeside men's champion will receive a cheque for £100,000 from a total prize fund of £325,000 - the richest ever in the history of the most event.

The men's runner up will take home £30,000, with the women's champion receiving £6,000.

The highest check-out of the week is worth £3,000, while any player hitting a nine-dart 501 could scoop £52,000.
