Adrian 'Jackpot' Lewis produced a stunning 164 checkout in the final leg to beat Vincent van der Voort 6-5 at the Las Vegas Desert Classic.
"That was the best shot of my career, without a doubt," said Lewis. "Vincent was sat on 92 so to take out 164 under that pressure is brilliant."
Meanwhile, Andy Hamilton eased into the second round with a 6-1 win over American qualifier Chris White.
They both join defending champion Phil Taylor in the last 16.
Taylor takes on his old rival Dennis Priestley, Lewis is up against Peter Manley and Hamilton will play Premier League winner James Wade in the second round on Friday.
