Hoy sets sights on world titles

Chris Hoy

Triple Olympic gold medallist Chris Hoy is preparing to return to training as he bids to increase his awards tally.

The 32-year-old cyclist will return to the track in November as he gears up for next year's World Championships.

"I'm really busy for the next few weeks and then, after the end of November, I'll be getting back into training," said Hoy.

"I've got the World Championships in March, in Poland, and that's the next big goal for me."

Hoy became the first British athlete in a century to win three gold medals at a single Games, winning in the sprint and keirin events.

The Scot believes that investment in cycling is required to enable Britain's track athletes to maintain the dominance they demonstrated in Beijing.

"You don't get the guys coming out of the top end if you don't invest in the sport at the grassroots level and this is fantastic for Scottish cycling," said Hoy.

He was speaking at Glasgow Science Centre to promote the second year of ScottishPower Renewables' sponsorship of Scottish Cycling.

"To have this kind of support is going to mean everything for the young riders, being given the opportunity to one day go on and become Olympic and world champions too," he added.
